One of our favorite traditions at Blue Hills UU, is to gather outdoors for a picnic during Memorial Day weekend. Our chosen setting is Veteran’s Park in Rice Lake, at the covered pavilion, top of the hill. The directions are simple: coming in from the north, turn left off 48 onto Lakeshore Dr., and travel it until reaching the park, on the lake between Stout & Douglas Streets.
If you take this route, you will pass by Indian Mounds Burial Grounds and also the statuary tributes to “First People Trails,” and “Manoomin”, honoring both the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe and the rice of Rice Lake, no longer present.
