Sociology instructor Josh Morey will address the Blue Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, November 8th, with a message reminding us that history is full of messiness. “Too often the stories societies tell about themselves betray what actually occurred – and few issues expose the contradictions of contemporary narratives like immigration.”

Using C. Wright Mills’s Sociological Imagination as lodestar, Morey will discuss the structural and historical factors that influence the personal decisions people make to emigrate, and lead a discussion in how ideologies regarding immigration are created and deployed to justify historical inequalities while rationalizing those of the present.

Joshua Morey is Sociology Instructor at Northwood Technical College and UW-Eau Claire, a Certified Advanced Practice Social Worker and Licensed School Social Worker, formerly working with students at Rice Lake High.
