A lot of climate science is disputed, but there are some facts that just can’t be ignored. Join us in discussing the greenhouse effect and what role humans are playing in it.

10:30 SERVICE: THE WISCONSIN IDEA

Since 1905, the University of Wisconsin system has been dedicated to offering programs and resources to the community. Out of this relationship came not only the UW-Extension, but many progressive new laws. Jude Genereaux will lead a service on how the “Wisconsin Idea” impacts us today and why it’s still important.

6:00PM FORUM: HOW TO LEAVE YOUR RELIGION

Join us for an hour this Wednesday, we will be having a discussion on deconversion, and *How to Leave Your Religion*. Please come and join us for an evening of thoughtful dialogue and sharing of personal stories.  We will have juice, water, tea, cookies, cheese, and crackers for us to snack on.

Discussion will be facilitated by one of our members, Ken Hood. Ken is a former Christian interested in sharing the insights he has gained while leaving the faith he was raised in.

If you have left a religion or changed your religion, you may be wondering…

How can I explain this decision to my friends and family?

Is it OK for me to be sad or upset about my loss of faith?

What does my life look like now?

Where can I find purpose?

We’ll be covering these questions and more! Guests and visitors are welcome.

This Sunday, February 11th, BHUU is celebrating Black History Month. At 10:30 am, Dave Hart will offer a service in which history and culture culminate into profound ideas on African Americans in US history. All are welcome to coffee, tea, and snacks following the service.

Our new Wednesday night discussion series (“Spirit at BHUU”) is launching this week, January 24th. These biweekly meetings will go from 6 PM – 7 PM every other Wednesday and will offer a chance for spirited discussion around big questions.

6PM FORUM: COMMUNICATING WITH PEOPLE WHO THINK DIFFERENTLY

Colten will be facilitating a discussion about how to constructively talk with people who think differently from our own perspective.  There will be time to share our personal experiences, stories and ideas of what works and what doesn’t work so well.  A set of questions will help to give structure to this engaging discussion.  Let’s help each other be better listeners, more effective communicators, and more compassionate human beings when we are interacting and communicating with people who think differently.

9:15 Forum:  The Ethics of CRISPR

Judy Barisonzi will lead a discussion that encourages everyone to talk about their views of the biotechnology, CRISPR, that makes it possible to edit entire genomes. All are invited to this important conversation involving personal values, potential issues, and what we can do to prepare for the future.

10:30 Service: Music & Poetry Sunday

It’s that time of year when the music and poetry that has had meaning in our lives can be shared with our fellowship and friends. Whether it is a song or a poem, original or from another artist, we welcome all expressions.

10:30 (Religious Education) The New Year of the Trees

Irene Asp will offer songs, stories, and discussion for children with a focus on the Jewish holiday, Tu B’shvat. This holiday celebrates something we can all appreciate, trees and what they have offer. Children (and adults) of all ages are welcome to join.

Bob will be facilitating the discussion forum on ‘words and the web’.  We have a focus this day on the 7 principles of being a Unitarian Universalist!

Colten will be facilitating a discussion about the art and science of communicating with people we disagree with.  The best things about these discussion forums is individual’s experiences, stories, ideas, etc. that we can all share with each other in order to be better communicators in conflict situations.
