Our 9:15 forum this November 4th, “Understanding White Privilege” provides safe space for uncomfortable conversations on the topic. Our former Board Chair, Nadine Wetzel-Curtis will lead the discussion, aimed to continue the process of being an ally for people of color.

Service begins at 10:30 with the reading of the Seven UU principles, joys and concerns, local announcements and social action, music and singing from our UU hymnal. The fellowship will be led this week by member Valerie Rude, a practicing therapist working with those who’ve suffered trauma and trying to return to work; the sermon/message will focus on the topic “Being Bi-polar”.

This Sunday we bid goodbye not only to October, but sadly to some of our snowbirds–bid them well and come back soon. We’ll begin the morning at Blue Hills UU with a TED TALK as our Forum…come and be surprised by the topic, much as this writer will be. We trust Ted to always be informative and worth hearing.

Our Service hour beginning at 10:30 will be led by Kent Shifferd, centering on the topic “Global Governance – Who and By Whom?”.  As our resident expert in this arena, Kent always pokes holes in our assumptions and brings us elements of these topics we need to know, painful as it often is.

A REMINDER that our November 4th gathering will also be our “Souper Fund Raiser”, with a goal to early mortgage pay-off.  $5 bucks gets you all you can eat – another $5 will net “take-out” privileges to stock the ‘frig.  Beer or wine?  $2 bucks.  If you haven’t signed up to bring soup, bread or dessert:  call Sheila Manor asap to do so.

Irene and Judy will be leading the discussion forum this week on a very important topic about one of the most well known parts of the first amendment of the US Constitution.

Linda will be leading the discussion forum this week and we will be talking about what kinds of things we want the BHUUF to do this year in terms of social action.

10:30 SERVICE: SIX OR SEVEN SOURCES

Judy will be leading the service this week with reading of the 7 UU principles, joys and concerns, local announcements, speaking for social action, music and singing from our UU hymns, and her message about the sources that UU’s draw their inspiration from.

9:15 FORUM: WHO INVITED YOU? IMMIGRANTS ON THE MEXICAN BORDER

Ginny Gelineau will be leading the discussion forum about a very timely and informative topic, “Who Invited You? Immigrants on the Mexican Border.”

10:30 SERVICE: COMPASSION

Dennis Peters from the Menomonie UU will be leading the service with local announcements, speaking for social action, joys and concerns, music and singing, and a beautiful and always appreciated message about compassion.

9:15 FORUM: teas from the backyard

Sheila Manor will be educating us about the herbal teas that she grows at her house, right in her backyard.  She’ll talk about some of her gardening techniques and methods for success when it comes to developing your green thumb.  We will discuss common teas to grow in our area and their medicinal uses.

10:30 SERVICE: agriculture as though nature matters

Dana Jackson is joining us as a member of the White Bear UU church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota and will be talking about sustainable agriculture and living at peace with nature.  Her experience and education will make for a very informative, enjoyable, and educational service that you won’t want to miss!

9:15 FORUM: MEN’S FELLOWSHIP

Waldo will be leading the forum with questions, stories, and discussion about men’s fellowship and why it’s important.

10:30 SERVICE: MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: HOW WE FOUND THE UU AND WHY I STAYED

Linda Thompson will be leading the service with lighting the chalice, reading the 7 principles, local announcements, speaking for social action, joys and concerns, music and singing from the UU hymnals, and her message and story about what brought her to Unitarian Universalism and why she has stayed.

10:30 SERVICE: LOVE KEEPS REACHING OUT

Rev. Phil Lund will return to the Blue Hills UU to give another service.  He notes that now more than ever, our country needs to know that the values of justice, equity, and compassion are alive and well in our UU congregations and fellowships. The best way to do this is by living out those values in ways that reach out in love to help those in our communities who are harmed by injustice and inequality. UU religious communities can do just that by finding the place where, as Fredrick Buechner says, our “deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

10:30 Forum: Outreach & Inreach for UU Congregations

Valerie Rude will lead discussion on how our congregation can meet the needs of both UU’s and others in the community.
